The Focus of AOR or Art of Rao, has been to create original work on subjects that we are passionate about.
Recent Original Projects:
Charlotte Lotus Flower (Basement Theatre) 2000, an examination of an abused woman's life and how it affected those around her.
State One (LSPU HALL) a protest against the invasion of Iraq exploring propaganda, role of the media in the digital age, and non-violent action. (Multi-media Stage Production) 2003.
Delphi (Multi-Disciplinary project - Stage Production, Contemporary Dance Piece, and Visual Art Show) 2003 - Delphi: ICON (LSPU Hall), Icon:Memory (Newman Wine Vaults) abnd Charlotte Lotus Flower (Holy Heart Theatre) come together as a complete examination of the emotional turmoil of the real life Delphi with each medium shedding new light and perspective on the tumultuous interactions of one family and the aftermath of years of abuse.
Dracula (Holy Heart Theatre) 2005. In 2005, AOR adapted Bram Stoker's classic for the stage with the guidance of resident expert Elizabeth Miller. We had two amazing partners in crime on this one - Michael Blanchard and Samatha Phillips - could not have done it without them.
In 2007 AOR changed direction and began producing with a different focus. AOR began helping up and coming artists producing shows such as Drawn To The Rhythm: A Tribute to Sarah Mclachlan (Holy Heart). AOR also produced singer-songwriter showcases and recitals for Dana Parsons, Melanie O'Brien (LSPU Hall), (2006), Laura Beth Gray (Petro Canada Hall (2007), and Lynn Kuo (D.F. Cook 2008).
In 2009 the goal was to find a way to encourage young talent to see the entertainment business as a viable career path. With our new pal Michael Coady and under the direction of Steve O'Connell we created a scholarshp show with The Diary of Anne Frank (Holy Heart Theatre).
In between all of these projects John has worked on Hatching, Matching, and Disptaching, Gordon Pinsent's Hey Day!, Diverted, Republic of Doyle, Tada's Our Divas do Christmas (2008), The Rocky Horror Show (2008) Our Divas do Christmas on Broadyway (2009), Drive By (THEMACHINE), Fitter Happier (A Video Tribute to Radiohead) has done photography and design for The Fables, The Ennis Sisters, Dana Parsons and numerous other clients and pals.
Now in 2010, the AOR focus has returned to original work with subject matter that has long been of great interest, inspiration, and passion.
